What is ICSB?

International Communication Service for the Blind, Inc. (ICSB) is a non-profit organization formed in 1995 to serve the visually-impaired population.

It serves as a network for agencies and individuals by acting as an information center.

Access to information is vital to being a part of society. This information is available only on a limited scale to people who are visually-impaired. ICSB will promote this accessibility with the support of computer technology. A global outreach program enacted through computer network! broadcasting and newsletter will put each person who is visually-impaired on equal footing with the rest of society.

Who are the ICSB's Board members?

The concept for the International Communication Service for the Blind, Inc. was proposed by Yo Kano, a musician who is visually-impaired. Mr. Kano has been an active proponent for providing services to the visually-impaired population with the goal of improving their quality of life. He has been producing radio programs for the Japan Broadcasting Service for the Blind. He has been sending audio and braille news reports to the Tokyo Helen Keller Association since 1989. These programs have focused on life in the United States and have served as a cultural link between the United States and Japan.

Chief Judge Emeritus Leonard Suchanek, an attorney who is visually-impaired and who was the chairman of the First World Congress on Technology for the Disabled, is a member of the board and firmly believes that technology is key to the advancement of quality of life standards for the disabled and that "we must concentrate on the advancement of technology so that all people with either visually-impairments or other disabilities can lead full and productive lives. This organization is the first and only organization founded on the principles of the First World Congress on Technology and it will bring to society the realization of the hopes and aspirations of the First World Congress."
